Sibilia Announces Campaign for Reelection to Represent Windham-2

May 12, 2026

Today, Representative Laura Sibilia announced she is seeking reelection to represent the Windham-2 district in the Vermont House of Representatives.

“I’m grateful for the conversations, feedback, and relationships that make this work possible,” she said. “Serving this district has been one of the greatest honors of my life, and I would be honored to continue the work.”

A longtime local volunteer and public servant, Sibilia served 21 years on the River Valleys school board before retiring last year.

Sibilia has represented Windham-2 in the House since 2023 and the Windham-Bennington district prior to reapportionment from 2015-2022. She serves on the House Energy and Digital Infrastructure Committee and co-chairs both the House Rural Caucus and the National Guard and Veterans Affairs Caucus.

During her time in office, Sibilia has focused on affordability, rural infrastructure, education, energy, broadband expansion, economic development, and the long-term livability of Vermont’s rural communities.

“We are living through a period of real instability and change,” Sibilia said. “Families are worried about affordability, property taxes, healthcare, housing, energy costs, and whether their children and grandchildren will be able to stay here.”

Sibilia pointed to her work helping establish Vermont’s broadband expansion framework, authoring the Municipal Energy Resilience Program to help towns lower long-term costs and strengthen local infrastructure, and sponsoring legislation designed to protect Vermont ratepayers as large data centers and new energy demands emerge.

She also highlighted her leadership around Act 181 and the impact major land use changes could have on rural communities.

“As co-chair of the Rural Caucus, I’ve worked to make sure rural Vermonters are informed and heard as the state moves through major changes to land use, housing, and development policy,” Sibilia said. “People deserve transparency and time to understand policies that may affect their homes, businesses, forests, farms, and communities for decades to come.”

Throughout her legislative service, Sibilia has built a reputation for working across political lines and focusing on implementation and results over partisanship.

“I’m an independent because I believe Vermonters are best served when we are willing to listen carefully, ask hard questions, and work with people who may not agree on everything,” she said. “Our communities are strongest when we stay focused on solving problems instead of ideological battles.”

Sibilia said education reform, healthcare and affordability will continue to be major priorities in the coming biennium.

“I understand the concerns families and communities have about the future of our schools because I’ve spent decades working directly in local education governance,” she said. “Rural Vermont cannot succeed if policies are designed without understanding how small communities actually function.”

She also emphasized the importance of protecting the long-term viability of rural communities.

“We need communities where working people, young families, older Vermonters, and local businesses can realistically afford to live and thrive,” Sibilia said. “That means staying focused on housing, infrastructure, energy reliability, strong local schools, healthcare access, and economic opportunity.”

Sibilia thanked residents across the district for their continued trust and engagement.

Sibilia will continue holding regular community conversations and office hours across the district throughout the summer and fall. More information, updates, her regular newsletter and contact information can be found at http://www.LauraSibiliaVT.com.
