To my Windham-2 neighbors,
Thank you for your trust. I am honored to serve Dover, Jamaica, Somerset, Stratton and Wardsboro again in the Statehouse. Please keep reaching out with questions, complaints and ideas, especially if you think we don’t agree.
A reminder that I have no staff and work full time in addition to serving as your representative. If I have not returned your call or answered your message in a timely fashion, please, reach out again. My cell phone and email address are on my website and at the end of every newsletter.
Vermont’s Democratic candidates benefited from the national political climate. I know my constituents across the political spectrum are being harmed by federal policies and actions being enacted by Republicans in Congress and the White House and by the failure of Republicans in Congress to check corruption and criminal activity in the executive branch. But, here in Vermont, supermajorities have not always served the House and Senate well. New legislative leaders will need to set priorities that respond to the conditions and high standards for our work.
I am not surprised Governor Scott was reelected. I do hope he works more regularly and collaboratively with the Legislature than he has in previous years. Especially with supermajorities, the time to leverage the expertise of his full time year round staff is before the session starts, not half way through.
As a Gen X American, a mother, a military family member and a human on planet Earth, I am relieved by the national results and encouraged by the incredible diversity of talented and qualified Americans elected to lead. I am heartened by what I see as an overwhelming rebuke of the Trump family’s corruption by Americans from all across this country. I hope Congress acts swiftly and competently to bring relief to Americans and ensure that those who have committed criminal acts are held accountable.
