Sibilia: Voting (and a short campaign season) has begun

After the longest legislative session in history, it’s hard to believe we are now also less then five weeks away from the general election. While we have been inundated with talk about the national elections, Vermont will also elect all offices from Governor to State Representative this year as we do every two years. And so this is now Vermont official’s campaigning season.

I am running for re-election in 2020 for a 4th term representing the voters, taxpayers, businesses and students of Dover, Readsboro, Searsburg, Somerset, Stamford, Wardsboro and Whitingham in the Vermont House. During a re-election year I typically go door to door over the summer and fall and hold in person meet and greet events on top of the weekly newsletters I send out. Because of COVID-19, I am not going door to door or holding in person campaign events. I will be continuing to meet with voters online and hosting Facebook live events @LauraSibiliaVT on Facebook.

Can you host a campaign sign?

Because of the compressed time frame between now and the election, TJ and I are a little late delivering yard signs. If you have one from previous years, now is the time to put them out. If you’d like a new one please send me an email at lhsibilia@gmail.com, or stop TJ or I if you see us out and about as we usually have signs with us.

Will you write a letter to new residents about my service?

We have many new residents and voters in the district. It may be helpful for them to hear from others in our district about how you have been helped by my service during COVID-19 or previously. Letters to the Editor can be sent to the Deerfield Valley News letters@vermontmedia.com.

Help Support Newspaper Ads?

Serving in the legislature does come at a financial cost to working Vermonters like me. These are very tough times for our families and neighbors and my expectation is that those in our district who can provide some financial support during this crisis have been doing so to any number of community service groups helping Vermonters. If you are also able to provide $10 or $5 to my reelection campaign, the funds will help further my communications and are very much appreciated. Please click here if you are also able to help offset these expenses.

While it is impossible for me to agree with each one of you on every issue, it is possible to help you understand what is happening in state government, how it may impact you, and what additional steps you may take to weigh in. It is truly an honor and a privilege to represent and connect you to our state government and I look forward to serving you again in the 2021 legislative session. On my website there is an abundance of information in the weekly updates I have sent out, a listing of the editorials I have written, and links to press coverage of my economic development work and my efforts to bring about educational accountability for our students and taxpayers in the legislature. As an independent, I pledge to continue to consider the merits of each issue over the respective party positions.

Voting Has Begun

Ballots have been mailed to voters in different towns on different days. When your ballot comes in the mail, if you plan to vote by mail, read the instructions carefully and return by mail no later then October 26th.

You can also return the ballot mailed to you directly to your Town Clerk by November 3rd.

You can also bring the ballot mailed to you to the polls unopened and vote in person – either early with your Town Clerk, or November 3rd at the polls. If you don’t bring the ballot mailed to you, you’ll have to sign an affidavit stating you have not already voted by mail.

Ballots in our district were sent out on:
September 25th to Searsburg and Readsboro
September 29th to Stamford
September 30th to Dover, Wardsboro and Whitingham
